Characteristic within many of these market segments, wide varieties of employees are unsupervised or work alone. Employers are searching for better ways to be compliant with labor laws and improve safety practices. The Loner platform has been proven to be the most effective solution on the market today. Loner can reduce overall cost for compliance and improve productivity for workers by eliminating manual check-in procedures. Workers in Canada and the US must be generally complaint with labor codes which now stipulate stricter check-in periods and more robust safety protocols.
Other judicial elements highlight an atmosphere of change and greater adherence to labor standards globally. Cotswold Geotechnical Holdings became the first UK company to be convicted of the corporate offense of manslaughter after losing their appeal May, 2011. Geologist Alex Wright is believed to have died while investigating soil samples in a trench which collapsed. Charges against the company Managing Director, Peter Eaton, for gross negligence manslaughter also ensued, a sentence that carries a penalty of up to life imprisonment. In Canada, Labor Minister Charles Sousa announced a four month enforcement “blitz” focused on Construction, Healthcare, Industrial and Mining. The safety efforts are heavily aimed at enforcement of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
