Waste Management and Blackline Announce Strategic Agreement

Written by Diana Winger | December 1, 2011

HOUSTON, TEXAS and CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Dec. 1, 2011) - Waste Management Security Services ("WMSSI"), a subsidiary of Waste Management, Inc. (NYSE:WM) and Blackline GPS ("Blackline") (TSX VENTURE:BLN) announced today a monitoring and marketing agreement whereby WMSSI will provide monitoring services for Blackline's suite of Loner® mobile worker safety solutions.

WMSSI currently provides 24/7 electronic security monitoring for Waste Management and its customers, and uses Blackline's Loner GPS safety device for monitoring their employees working at various company facilities as well as those off-site. Expanding their suite of services, WMSSI is now offering Loner safety solution monitoring services to its customers wishing to protect mobile workers with remote safety monitoring technology in addition to property and assets.

The Loner safety device provides monitoring of mobile workers using micro-electro-mechanical sensors and True Fall Detection™, a patented technology that detects falls in real-time with virtually no false alarms. Incorporating an emergency button and GPS, Loner products communicate safety alerts to the WMSSI monitoring center where personnel manage an efficient, location-empowered emergency response.

"We've based our decision to include Loner in our monitoring services as a result of the positive experience using the technology with Waste Management employees. This agreement enables Waste Management to offer mobile worker monitoring to our customers," said Shanna Lopez, manager for security operations at WMSSI. "We have also seen the market for this service grow and we are able to adapt well to these market conditions."

"Waste Management has enormous diversity within commercial and industrial markets providing solutions for recycling, construction, healthcare, and manufacturing, among others," said Clark Swanson, president of Blackline. "Loner is an efficient and effective solution for monitoring the safety of employees, especially those who work alone."
