Real-Life Incident: Henry’s Story – Stranded With No Signal

Written by Blackline Safety | February 25, 2026

"I’m stuck on the scissor lift.”: Connected safety made the save when signals failed.

Henry was up on a scissor lift when the battery on the lift died, leaving him stranded in the air. When he went to call for help on his phone, he realized he couldn’t get a signal and there were no other employees in sight. Luckily, the waste management professional was wearing his Blackline G7 device.

Initiate SOS Protocol

Because Henry’s device was connected to Blackline's 24/7 live monitoring service, he knew help was available at the push of a button. He sent an “I’m stranded” text from his G7c, one of the 10 preprogrammed messages workers can send to monitoring personnel for faster, more efficient communication in emergencies.

The Safety Operations Center (SOC) agent who received the notification responded within seconds, calling Henry on his device to assess the issue.

“We’ve received a message alert. Are you ok?”

Make the Call

After learning he wasn’t in immediate physical danger and confirming his identity, the SOC agent was able to figure out next steps to resolve the issue.

“I’m on the scissor lift and the battery died,” Andrew said over his device. “Can you call Andrew, the manager of the building, please?”

Henry’s own manager, who was also contacted by Blackline, confirmed he was unable to get a hold of Henry over his phone. He requested the SOC agent send the message “Andrew is on the way,” and to keep contacting Henry through his more reliably connected Blackline device.

The all-new G8 is the latest in Blackline’s family of products, combining gas monitoring, communication, and work alone protection into one lightweight, always-connected device.

Always-On Connection

Let him know that my phone will not dial out from this location.”

Even when his cellphone failed to find a signal, Henry’s G7c device was never out of reach because of Blackline’s built-in multi-carrier SIM technology. Because of this technology, devices in cellular range will auto-switch between major networks, so if one carrier’s coverage is weak, G7c will seamlessly connect to the next available signal.

This feature not only ensures workers who can’t always rely on their phones still get help when needed, but it also keeps vital safety data streaming to the cloud so monitoring teams never lose full visibility.

Because of that connectivity, Henry was rescued quickly, the alert was resolved, and everyone was able to get back to work—safely.
