Ohio-based MAC Trailer Enterprises, Inc., and its related entities are the nation’s foremost manufacturer of dump, platform, pneumatic tank, liquid tank, refuse trailer and dump bodies, which are manufactured and sold under the MAC, Beall, and Trailstar brands.

MAC Trailer operates 13 manufacturing facilities across six states, where its 1400+ employees regularly perform high-risk work in confined spaces such as pneumatic and liquid cargo tanks. As their operations expanded, maintaining consistent safety standards across multiple sites became increasingly complex.

Previously, MAC Trailer relied on legacy gas monitors with limited functionality. Communication was restricted to visual alarms or audible alerts within earshot, with no centralized way to see where people were or what was happening unless someone else was nearby. With no online portal, and no real-time alerts, they lacked awareness across distributed facilities, limiting their ability to respond quickly and standardize safety practices at scale.

MAC Trailer introduced Blackline Safety’s connected wearables and EXO area monitors across its operations. The goal was simple: enable real-time communication, improve awareness of where workers were and what they were exposed to, speed up incident response, and standardize safety practices across all locations.

Adoption was rapid. After an initial demo, the team moved quickly to full deployment before the first 30 days of the trial were complete.

The impact was quickly felt across daily operations through:

• Two-way communication, allowing workers to speak directly to one another and to monitoring personnel.
• AlertLink proximity-based alerts, that cascade across devices and area monitors, warning others nearby of hazards like high gas or overlimit exposure.

In MAC’s large, spread-out facilities, alerts can pass from one device to the next, notifying surrounding teams of potential danger. With a safety radius of up to 5,000 meters (16,000 ft), AlertLink delivers a level of awareness MAC did not have with its previous solution.

Visibility in low-connectivity areas
Some of MAC’s facilities are large, steel-sided buildings where GPS alone is limited. Location beacons help expand coverage and maintain visibility in these areas.
