On July 8, I had the privilege of representing Blackline Safety at the Red Dot Awards gala in Essen, Germany—an evening that celebrates some of the most innovative, world-changing designs from around the globe.

Our EXO 8 area monitor was recognized with a Red Dot Award for outstanding industrial design. Seeing it on display at the Red Dot Design Museum—alongside products from companies like LG, Ferrari, Panasonic, Phillips, and Lamborghini—was a moment of pride. Not just because we stood among global leaders in design, but because we share the same design standard: design that creates real, human impact.

As one Red Dot jury member described it, this year’s winning entries were all “products that help humanity.” That word—humanity—cut through the evening. It’s a reminder that design doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It exists to serve. To solve. To make life safer, more sustainable, more just.

At Blackline, we don’t build for convenience or luxury. We build for protection. For the crews working in high-risk environments—mines, refineries, remote sites—where real-time safety monitoring can mean the difference between life and death. As our CEO, Cody Slater, puts it:

“People are alive today because the company they work for chose Blackline to protect them. That’s the measure of our impact—and the reason we do what we do.”

That’s what EXO 8 represents. More than a device, it’s a commitment to those workers and their families. A tool designed not only to perform, but to endure—to deliver the data and connectivity that teams need to make fast, informed decisions when seconds matter.

Continuous innovation was another theme woven throughout the night—something deeply embedded in Blackline’s DNA. We don’t build once and move on. We iterate. We push forward. We challenge ourselves to solve problems that haven’t been solved yet. EXO 8 is one example of that mindset—and this award is a powerful acknowledgment of what it stands for.

We’re honored to be recognized on a global stage. But more than that, we’re proud to be part of a community of designers and engineers using innovation to serve something bigger: a safer, more connected world.
