IT Network Infrastructure & Operations Specialist

The Network Infrastructure & Operations Specialist is responsible for managing and administering network systems across the organization, participate in projects that architect, design, build, and implement new network technologies in a high availability environment, provide day-to-day operational support, change control, problem resolution and security services in order to ensure availability of business applications, and also includes capacity planning, configuring, maintaining, supporting, troubleshooting and optimizing all local and wide area network connections, voice systems, associated software, and communication links.

 

This position will provide input into the future direction of network technologies working with the IT Operations Manager. The position will work closely with Technical Resources, Project Managers, and Operational Resources and is expected to take ownership of infrastructure design processes and consolidate inputs from a variety of teams (business & technical) into a comprehensive infrastructure design to be used to ensure the scalability and security of Blacklines network environment.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Minimum five (5) years proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, Voice, Wireless and Security support, maintenance, design and implementation.
  • College Diploma or University Degree related to Information Technology, relevant Cisco and Networking Certification (e.g. CCNA)
  • Advanced knowledge and proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
  • Competence with monitoring and test tools or procedures for voice and data circuits.
  • Assist in supporting data center/server room operations including HVAC control, environmental alarms, access restrictions, and more.
  • Detail oriented with strong problem solving, documentation and communication skills, ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
  • Ability to work in both a structured, process-oriented environment with a background in developing process improvements using ITIL/ITSM including Change Management, Incident and Problem Management.
  • Knowledge and experience delivering large infrastructure projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of current network and firewall hardware, protocols, and standards.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high growth environment.
  • Proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and deployment with the ability to conduct research, develop requirements and make recommendations on products, services and standards.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Exceptional customer service orientation.
  • Experience in the Manufacturing industry would be preferred although not a requirement.
  • Deep knowledge of network technologies such as TCP/IP, switching, routing, firewalls.
  • Ability to raise, facilitate, and resolve business and technical issues.
  • Capable of working on concurrent projects and conflicting priorities.
  • Familiarity with hosted services, migrating, operating, and security posture.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Visio and suite of Microsoft Office products.
  • ITIL v3 Foundation’s certification is an asset.
  • Understanding of cloud-based systems, such as Azure, AWS and Office 365
  • Excellent grasp of virtualization technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure appropriate infrastructure scaling and performance to meet business needs
  • Assist with forecasting, budgeting, and purchasing of network infrastructure hardware, licenses, maintenance, software, support, etc.
  • Vendor management.
  •  Implement and manage security policies to ensure secure operations of all network infrastructure.
  • Business continuity and disaster recovery of core network infrastructure assets.
  • Review and resolve network security infrastructure incidents and problems and ensure resolution in a timely manner, delegating and escalating where necessary.
  • Lead the installation of network, firewalls, data centre, and telephony equipment.
  • Manage a global network and ensure seamless communications.
  • Design repeatable processes for installation, security, and configuration that allows simple operational processes for support.
  • Documentation and knowledge management of network infrastructure services.
  • Contribute to the design process using technical expertise and challenge design team members on technical recommendations where needed and appropriate.
  • Ensure all system designs are aligned with the IT’s architectural standards and roadmaps and build roadmaps and standards were missing.
  • Ensure technical compliance with best practice standards and engineering designs and solutions.
  • Administer, monitor, support, and maintain reliability, performance and service goals of networking, voice, data, security and wireless services.
  • Monitor and analyze network performance across the organization’s LANs, WANs, and wireless deployments as well as troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions and coordinate incident response.
  • Check help desk queues for network issues; prioritize and respond to help desk tickets as appropriate working closely with helpdesk resolving problems and providing recommendations.
  • Plan and implement upgrades, maintenance releases and patches. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades and installation of network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, UPSs, and cabling.
  • Practice asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment including maintenance of network component inventory, related documentation, and technical specifications information.
  • Create, document and test change management services and processes.
  • Maintain compliance with IT, SOX and other critical processes
  • Assess IT infrastructure needs, conduct capacity planning assessments and build and maintain enterprise infrastructure capacity to accommodate rapid business growth.
  • Establish and maintain a strong service orientation culture; report on metrics and KPI’s to measure performance.
  • Work with the Manager, Infrastructure and Operations in operational and strategic planning and implementing those strategies.
  • Keep current with the latest technologies and direct research on potential technology solutions in support of Blacklines growth.
